In the Hakka dialect, 張薏玲 is pronounced Tsong Yī Lìng.

Given to me by my paternal grandmother, Yī (薏) refers to Job’s tears — a millet plant more commonly known as Chinese pearl barley. The literal translation of Lìng (玲) is “the tinkling sound of gems”. Together, I imagine the loose grains of the plant gently hitting against one other as they sway in the wind, creating a subtle yet striking sound.

This is me.

An explorer moved by the wind, with the intention that my presence, voice, and movement can serve as channels to tap into the life force energy that permeates one and all.
